First look: Top story lines, betting odds for Georgia vs Alabama 2020 football game By Jed May and Brandon Sudge, The Macon Telegraph Tropical Storm Eta dumps blustery rain on Florida. Alabama is strict when it comes to gambling within its borders, but that reach does not extend as strongly to online sports betting. In fact, going online is the best and only way to enjoy legal Alabama sports betting. Heading online and going to one of our suggested offshore sites is how Alabamans can place bets on their favorite teams.
For one, it's tough to see Alabama anything but a double-digit win team every year in general, as they are continually reloading their talent pool with some of the best talent in the country. QB Mac Jones is likely to start the season as the team's starter, but should he slip up in the first month – when Alabama plays Texas A&M and hosts Georgia – a change from Saban could be in the works.
Those two games could be an early stumbling block or two for the Tide relative to their win total action, but early lines have them as at least a touchdown favorite in both of those contests. And then when you look at the rest of the schedule as SEC West play picks up, there still is plenty to like about Alabama's prospects of a 10 win campaign 2020.
With the price tag on Alabama to win their division in the SEC being identical to their win total 'over' price, this may be the better spot for bettors to lay that chalk given that it could give a bit more margin of error. Alabama not getting this title with 11 or more wins is extremely unlikely, but should they go something like 10-2 SU again, as long as the losses came against the “right” opponents (non-conference or even non-division), a “Yes” bet on the SEC West crown would pay off.
The Crimson Tide are the prohibitive favorite in this category as well, and should they claim the SEC West and get to the SEC conference title game – likely against Georgia or Florida based on current prices – Alabama would be likely laying significant chalk there as well.
For one, a potential meeting with Georgia would be a rematch from the earlier game in September, and depending on how that result played out, the predictable narratives should follow. An Alabama blow out win in that first meeting would put them as huge favorites in the rematch and then you've essentially got a -143 ML price in your pocket with this bet on what would be significantly higher at the time.
A potential meeting with Florida would be interesting, but a -143 ML price on the Tide would still likely be considered a huge bargain as well. If you like Alabama's odds of returning to the top of the SEC in 2020, it's really tough to not like getting a piece of this wager on “Yes” now.
The national picture has Alabama as the third favorite to be a playoff team again this year, behind Clemson (-670) and Ohio State (-230). No other program is listed with a minus beside their name, so again, future projections on this year's Alabama team are quite high.
And yet, if the Crimson Tide are expected to be that type of good, it seemingly makes much more sense from a betting perspective to lay similar chalk – either -200 or -143 – for them to win the SEC West and/or SEC Championship.
The SEC Champion has made the CFB Playoff every year, so there is a bit of redundancy there, but if that's the case in 2020 again, would you prefer to lay -143 (to win SEC Championship) or -200 to cash a ticket? That's basically what ends up being the question bettors have to ask themselves here when looking at Alabama futures. For those that are high on Alabama's prospects in 2020 and ability to bounce back as a playoff contender, this is the wager that seems to make the most sense. Getting 3-1 on your money for Alabama to go all the way is the better way to play these playoff futures on Alabama if a “yes” approach is the one you are looking to take.
Sure, they'll have to beat two very good teams to get this done whereas that probably won't be the case to just get invited to the playoff, but the odds reflect that, and it's not like you aren't able to question how good a team like say Clemson “really” is after playing their ultra-soft ACC schedule every year.
The Crimson Tide currently have six players listed in the Heisman Trophy Odds betting market and three of them are quarterbacks.

Based on the extraordinary high standards the Alabama Crimson Tide football team is expected to live up to each year, 2019 was a bit of a “down” year for them. And yet, every other program in the country would sign up for the 10-2 straight up (SU) regular season record and a convincing win over a ranked Michigan program in the Citrus Bowl. But all of that success just wasn't up to par for Nick Saban's program, as it was the first time since the CFB Playoff was created for the 2014-15 season that Alabama was not involved as one of the final four teams.

Injuries to QB Tua Tagovailoa midway through the year really put a wrench in those potential CFB Playoff plans the Tide had in 2019, as a home loss to eventual National Champion LSU was their first defeat of the season. Alabama was still in the thick of the playoff race after that though, but it was a 48-45 loss in the Iron Bowl vs Auburn that officially eliminated them from the playoff picture and sent another class of highly talented football players headed towards the NFL draft.
